The Contortionist is a proposal for the Discovery Partners Institute Headquarters. Part of a planned development, called “the 78”, this project seeks to provide the city with a center or innovation and education for southside Chicagoans. split betweeen public plaza and semi private building the concept of the project bridges tunnels across the site and interfaces with the Chicago River, connecting the South Loop and Chinatown, creating another link between the city and it’s outlying suburbs. Additionally,  The project seeks to destabilize convential institutional programming through oblique and colliding programs.

The Facade borrows inspiration from the rich history of modern architecture in Chicago, imagining the soaring glass towers folding in on it’s self, contorting to the site and reducing it’s presence along the river front.
